No! The Dazer produces a loud sound that dogs can hear but humans cannot. This sound is an ultrasonic output that is totally harmless to dogs, the sound pressure level is also well below the threshold levels for pain for dogs. The frequency range is at approx. 25KHz; humans can hear to about 14 KHz, dogs as high as 40 KHz. 

The Dazer works by emitting a high pitched sound to produce a startle effect, or more technically called an alpha wave interruption — (much like when we hear a smoke alarm — our hearing is not harmed but the sound gets our full attention). The dog's reaction to the sound from the Dazer is like an alert to the sound and therefore being deterred from the source of where the sound is emitting and changes behaviour.

ABSOLUTELY! The Dazer is extremely effective in stopping barking dogs, deterring aggressive dogs, modifying and training dog behaviour and can be also used on cats. 

To make sure you are using the Dazer as effectively as possible. 

Point the Dazer toward the approaching animal and press and hold the button for 1-2 seconds. Repeat as necessary to repel or stop the animal approaching or barking. Point the silver disc at the front of the Dazer towards the animal for best results. The output is directional and therefore the effectiveness is reduced when used at an angle. It is often more effective to use 1-2 second repeated bursts rather than a constant activation. Although the animal will hear the high frequency sound at 7 meters (20 feet) or more, it is most effective and discomforting at 2 to 5 meters (5 to 15 feet).
